Legal General Counsel at ID5.io

Leads legal strategy, enterprise risk, governance, contracts, IP, data rights, partnerships, and corporate transactions as ID5’s senior-most legal executive.

Exec Posted 9 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

ID5 enables addressable and measurable advertising to support the growth of the digital economy and provide free and safe access to content and services. Technical changes, signal loss, and increasingly more stringent data protection regulations require new, advanced technologies that enable audience addressability while respecting people’s privacy preferences.

ID5 has risen to this challenge and developed solutions that support publishers’ and marketers’ need for better addressability. Its laser focus on Identity sets it apart from competitive solutions and enables the company to offer the most advanced and sophisticated identity services to over 100,000 media properties, and hundreds of technology platforms and advertisers, making it the most adopted identity solution in the market.

About ID5

ID5 delivers Adaptive Identity for omnichannel advertising. We provide intelligent, privacy-first identity infrastructure that turns fragmented signals into scalable and measurable identity solutions across devices and channels. Our technology is trusted across the digital advertising ecosystem, empowering publishers, platforms, and brands to connect with audiences effectively, responsibly, and at scale.

The Opportunity

ID5 is entering an important new phase. Following the acquisition of TrueData, we now operate across three entities in the UK and US with approximately 85 people in 15 countries. We sit at the intersection of digital identity, data protection, software and advertising regulation, so legal judgment is embedded in our products, partnerships and revenue model rather than sitting at the edge of the business.

This is ID5’s senior-most legal role and a genuine executive seat. Reporting directly to the CEO & Co-Founder, you will set legal and enterprise-risk strategy, hold final legal sign-off and give the CEO, founders and board clear, decision-ready advice. You will lead a capable in-house team and specialist outside counsel, while remaining close enough to the business to make commercially pragmatic decisions at speed.

Alongside day-to-day legal leadership, you will strengthen the corporate foundations behind ID5’s next phase of growth: clear governance, well-managed entities, robust contracts and IP and data rights, and reliable information and decision-making. You will also lead the legal work on strategic partnerships, corporate development and any transactions that arise.

What You’ll Do

  • Enable revenue through better contracting. Own the commercial contract architecture across customer and partner agreements, product modules, order forms, DPAs and NDAs; improve templates, playbooks, delegation rules and tooling so routine deals move quickly without the top legal seat becoming a bottleneck.
  • Set ID5’s legal and risk strategy. Act as the accountable legal adviser to the CEO, founders and board; surface material risk early, frame the available choices clearly and own final legal sign-off.
  • Lead corporate development and strategic projects. Advise on partnerships, investments, acquisitions, integrations and other strategic initiatives, and ensure ID5’s governance, contracts and records allow the company to act quickly and confidently when opportunities arise.
  • Provide the senior legal view on privacy and data protection. Work alongside Product and Engineering, and specialist external counsel, on positions across GDPR, UK GDPR, US state privacy laws, consent frameworks, controller/processor analysis, data transfers and retention, so that privacy by design is built into product and technical decisions and ID5’s positions are defensible and commercially workable.
  • Oversee disputes and intellectual-property exposure. Provide the senior legal view on material contentious matters, work with specialist outside counsel on strategy, preservation, discovery and resolution, keep IP and indemnity exposure managed, and make sure the CEO and board have a clear picture of where risk sits and what it may cost.
  • Maintain strong corporate governance. Oversee the group’s entities, board materials, delegated authorities, insurance and cross-border structure, while supporting employment, marketing and other enterprise matters where senior legal judgment is required.
  • Build a scalable legal function. Develop the in-house team, set clear ownership between Legal and the business, manage the legal budget and outside-counsel panel, and use process and technology to create a function that scales with ID5.

What We’re Looking For

  • You are ready to carry General Counsel-level accountability. You have operated as the senior legal decision-maker in-house, or immediately beneath one with clear ownership of enterprise-critical matters, and are comfortable advising founders, executives and boards.
  • You understand data-intensive technology. You bring strong commercial and regulatory judgment from adtech, digital identity, data infrastructure, privacy technology or a similarly complex B2B software environment.
  • You combine privacy fluency with commercial instinct. You can form defensible positions on novel data-protection questions, or pressure-test positions formed by specialists, and translate them into practical product and contracting decisions rather than defaulting to theoretical or overly cautious advice.
  • You are a proactive, collaborative business partner. Commercial, Product, Engineering and People leaders involve you early because you understand their goals, communicate plainly and help them find a responsible way forward.
  • You know how to direct specialists without outsourcing judgment. You can hold the senior view on material disputes, privacy, IP and corporate matters, use outside counsel selectively and make the final recommendation internally.
  • You build leverage through people and systems. You develop strong lawyers, delegate intelligently, establish useful guardrails and improve how legal work is prioritised, measured and delivered across a fully distributed organisation.
  • You are a qualified lawyer in a relevant jurisdiction. You are admitted and in good standing in the US, UK or another jurisdiction appropriate to advising a UK-parented global technology group with significant US exposure.

Nice To Have

  • Direct adtech and identity ecosystem experience, including IAB consent frameworks, digital advertising standards, data marketplaces or data-broker regulation.
  • Experience integrating an acquisition across jurisdictions, including entity governance, data integration, commercial migration and employment structures such as EORs or PEOs.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • A true seat at the table. You will report directly to the CEO & Co-Founder, hold standing access to the board and shape decisions rather than review them after they have already been made.
  • A business where legal judgment genuinely matters. Identity, privacy and responsible data use sit at the centre of ID5’s product and strategy, giving Legal a rare opportunity to influence both the company and the wider market.
  • A pivotal corporate chapter. You will strengthen the legal and governance foundations for ID5’s next stage of growth and influence the strategic decisions that shape it.
  • Meaningful scope without unnecessary hierarchy. You will lead a focused team, work directly with senior decision-makers and see the impact of your judgment across product, revenue, risk and corporate strategy.
  • The opportunity to build something durable. You will inherit a broad mandate and have the authority to clarify ownership, improve systems and create a legal function that serves ID5 well through its next phase and beyond.

What we offer to our talent

  • Remote-first working policy
  • A competitive compensation package, including stock options in ID5
  • WeWork membership and option to work from different WeWork locations
  • Regular offsites to enjoy face-to-face time and to bond further with your colleagues
  • A dynamic environment that offers room for growth and development to all employees
  • A friendly, international, and multicultural team
  • We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are passionate about creating an inclusive environment in which all employees can thrive

More about ID5

Launched in September 2017, ID5 currently employs 80 people and works with premium publishers, ad tech platforms, and advertisers globally. Built to improve addressability across all digital advertising environments, ID5 has rapidly established itself as the most adopted identity solution in the market, prevailing over larger and more established companies thanks to its unique position and focus on providing the best identification and data protection technology.

The company is backed by financial and strategic industry investors who believe in ID5’s vision and plan. This investment has allowed ID5 to expand the business, increase its footprint globally, and hire the best talent to support its ambitious growth plans.

Recognized as one of the most outstanding employers by Digiday’s WorkLife Awards 2023, ID5 is a remote-first company, allowing employees to work from different locations and time zones indefinitely. We equip our team with all the tools needed to perform their work remotely, and we ensure people bond and stay connected thanks to regular all-hands meetings, communication tools such as Slack and Zoom, and by organizing regular offsites around the world. We also offer WeWork membership for those who prefer not to work from home, and allow individuals to move across different WeWork locations. Legal Director, UCC & Tax Lien Compliance at Toast

Leads Toast’s UCC, tax lien, levy, garnishment, and bankruptcy compliance function while building teams, policies, controls, and operational processes.

Exec Posted 14 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

At Toast, we are passionate about creating raving fans and delivering an unparalleled customer experience — and that includes assisting our restaurant customers when their business becomes entangled in a creditor dispute. When a lien, levy, or garnishment is filed against a merchant, our customers need a partner who moves quickly, communicates clearly, and gets it right the first time. As Toast brings the end-to-end management of liens and levies in-house, we need an experienced subject matter expert to build and lead this function from the ground up.

As the Director, UCC & Tax Lien Compliance, you will own the day-to-day operational management of Toast’s merchant liens and levies and bankruptcy compliance programs, build the specialized team and processes required to run it well, and lead the insourcing of this function in close partnership with Compliance, Care, Product and Engineering and Legal. This is a hands-on, build-it role: you’ll inherit an active, high-visibility function with real customer and compliance stakes, and you’ll be the person who turns it into a well-governed, scalable operation.

About this role

Strategic Ownership

  • Build and maintain a state-by-state policy framework.
  • Build the governance backbone for the function: SOPs, decision frameworks, case tracking, and closed-loop quality review, so that policy is applied consistently across the team and holds up to audit and legal scrutiny.
  • Determine the right tools and systems required to manage an effective Liens & Levies compliance process, work with product and impacted stakeholders to minimize losses to Toast.
  • Own the phased liens and levies compliance transition plan with Toast’s third-party partner, including data-sharing, visibility, and handoff of withholding and remittance responsibilities.
  • Establish and own the escalation path for complex or high-risk cases (e.g., competing creditor claims, disputed releases, bankruptcy proceedings, fraudulent or ambiguous documentation), partnering with Risk, Legal, and third-party fintech partners (e.g., payment processors) to reach sound, consistent decisions.
  • Define and track operational KPIs (e.g., resolution time, case volume, escalation rates) and report progress and risk to cross-functional and executive stakeholders.

Operational Ownership

  • Own the day-to-day management and execution of Toast’s merchant liens and levies compliance program, including customer communications, intake, validation, withholding, escalations, complex/unique scenario handling, remittance, and release, serving as the subject matter expert to bring and operate this function in-house.
  • Drive the operational process work required to insource the liens and levies compliance functions currently managed by a third-party partner, including business requirements, workflow design, and transition sequencing, in partnership with Fintech Product, Engineering, Legal and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Build and lead a dedicated liens & levies oversight team within Fintech Risk, defining roles, workflows, staffing needs, and training as case volume scales.
  • Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert on handling liens, levies, garnishments, and similar legal orders — including UCC filings, judgment liens, tax levies, bankruptcy implications, lien priority, and change-of-ownership/change-of-legal-entity scenarios — and translate that expertise into developing, owning, and maintaining clear, defensible policies, procedures and processes.
  • Represent the team in cross-functional planning with Legal, Fintech, and Engineering as the technical build (case management, funds management, and reporting systems) is scoped and delivered.

Do you have the right ingredients?

  • 7+ years of experience working with UCC and tax liens, levies, bankruptcies, and garnishments and the associated compliance requirements, as well as change and people leadership experience.
  • Experience developing compliance management programs for regulated functions.
  • Experience managing complex, sensitive escalations directly with customers, creditors, and their attorneys, exercising sound judgment on matters with real legal and financial consequences.
  • Deep subject matter expertise in the mechanics, legal/regulatory distinctions, and compliance requirements applicable to different types of liens, levies, and garnishments — including UCC-1 filings, judgment liens, tax levies, and lien priority–and how each is impacted by different events impacting merchants, such as bankruptcy, business organizational changes (e.g., change of ownership and mergers/acquisitions), and know your customers (KYC)/know your business (KYB) requirements and events.
  • Working knowledge of the regulatory landscape surrounding merchant funds handling, such as state-by-state garnishment and levy requirements, and money transmission/payment facilitator obligations, and strong knowledge of UCC Article 9 concepts as they apply to secured creditor claims.
  • Demonstrated ability to build an operating model, team, and governance structure where none previously existed, with comfort operating in ambiguity while a function transitions between partners and systems.
  • Proven cross-functional leadership skills — able to align Legal, Risk & Compliance, Engineering, Finance, and Customer Care around a shared process and drive decisions to closure without direct authority over every stakeholder.
  • Experience managing a vendor or partner transition (e.g., insourcing a previously outsourced function), including defining business requirements and partnering with technical teams on system design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal/operational nuance into clear guidance for frontline teams and concise updates for executive stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience; a background in banking operations, legal/paralegal work, or compliance is a plus but not required.

What this role involves

About Us

At Cloudflare, we are on a mission to help build a better Internet. Today the company runs one of the world’s largest networks that powers millions of websites and other Internet properties for customers ranging from individual bloggers to SMBs to Fortune 500 companies. Cloudflare protects and accelerates any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code. As a result, they see significant improvement in performance and a decrease in spam and other attacks. Cloudflare was named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top Company Cultures list and ranked among the World’s Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company.

At Cloudflare, we’re not looking for people who wait for a polished roadmap; we’re looking for the builders who see the cracks in the Internet that everyone else has simply learned to live with. We value candidates who have the instinct to spot a “normalized” problem and the AI-native curiosity to create a solution using the latest tools. Our culture is built on iteration, leveraging AI to ship faster today to make it better tomorrow, while ensuring that every improvement, no matter how small, is shared across the team to lift everyone up. If you’re the type of person who values curiosity over bureaucracy, and that AI is a partner in solving tough problems to keep the Internet moving forward, you’ll fit right in.

Available Locations:

  • Austin, TX
  • San Franciso, CA
  • Washington, D.C.

About the role

Cloudflare is looking for a highly experienced and visionary new leader of its Global Trust and Safety team. In pursuit of its goal to “help build a better Internet,” Cloudflare operates one of the world’s largest and most important cloud networks. Maintaining the high level of trust between the Company and our customers, partners, and the larger Cloudflare community is critical. Our Trust and Safety team operates in a dynamic environment to implement policies that further this trust, responding to legal requests for information about our customers and use of our network, assisting Cloudflare employees implementing security and compliance programs, and supporting our customers, their users, and complaining parties to address claims of abuse.

At Cloudflare, we’re not looking for people who wait for a polished roadmap; we’re looking for the builders who see the cracks in the Internet that everyone else has simply learned to live with and are willing to roll up their sleeves to fix them. If you’re the type of person who values curiosity over bureaucracy, and believes that AI is a partner in solving tough problems to keep the Internet moving forward, you’ll fit right in.

What you’ll do

In this role, you will lead Cloudflare’s team of investigators and engineers who process requests for information and abuse reports through a system of automated systems and manual escalation protocols. You will be expected to provide vision for the team, developing new ways to build trust in Cloudflare’s network, consistent with Cloudflare’s principles. You will create and maintain clear policies, identify appropriate areas and mechanisms for automation, and ensure consistent and fair application of Cloudflare’s standards. You will be responsible for identifying and recruiting top talent to your team and engaging with leaders across the organization, including the Legal, Policy, Security, Communications, Support, Product and Engineering teams. You will also represent the company externally with industry peers and government officials, and help identify potential trust and safety related partners and engagements.

Based on the variety of products offered by Cloudflare and the complexity of global legal standards covering requests for information and abuse, the right candidate will have technical expertise, be able to create policies and protocols that account for this complexity, effectively manage a global team responsible for implementing those changing policies, and develop creative solutions that take advantage of Cloudflare’s tools to improve trust and safety functions across the company. You will be expected to solve hard problems under pressure, often with senior executives and internal experts, and clearly communicate your vision to stakeholders across the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Help design and build a trust and safety function for a highly technical company that is designed for the age of AI.
  • Build, develop, and manage a world-class globally-distributed team that operates 24/7/365.
  • Create and maintain processes and policies for handling legal requests and abuse complaints.
  • Ensure consistent, timely, efficient, and fair application of those policies across a variety of circumstances and locations, incorporating AI-powered automation and processing,
  • Liaise with senior company leaders, attorneys, engineers, and security staff inside Cloudflare to address circumstances that arise with regard to operation of the Trust & Safety team.
  • Work with engineers to create and improve automated tools to drive improvements and increase efficiencies.
  • Partner with the Policy, Legal, and Product teams to develop and implement policies and guidelines that can be enforced in a scalable fashion.
  • Deal with sensitive content and emotionally charged escalations with tact and a calm demeanor.
  • Take responsibility for online fraud and safety concerns, including but not limited to account security, safety concerns and user trust.
  • Represent the company externally with industry groups, government officials, enterprise customers, and members of the press to explain Cloudflare’s approach to Trust and Safety.
  • Maintain and build upon Cloudflare’s transparency reporting process by identifying new areas of interest and information that we should be sharing with the public to maintain trust.

Internet properties powered by Cloudflare all have web traffic routed through its intelligent global network, which gets smarter with every request.

We value candidates who have the instinct to spot a “normalized” problem and the AI-native curiosity to create a solution using the latest tools. Our culture is built on iteration, leveraging AI to ship faster today to make it better tomorrow, while ensuring that every improvement, no matter how small, is shared across the team to lift everyone up. BACKGROUND AND OPPORTUNITY

There are almost 75 million hourly workers in the United States, representing more than half of the entire workforce. Historically, managing hourly employees has been difficult due to high attrition (average of 60%) and high replacement costs (average of $3,200 per employee in retail). The ongoing labor shortage and competition from the gig economy, make it more difficult to attract and retain hourly employees. The top reasons hourly employees leave their jobs are a lack of schedule empowerment, poor communication with employers, and an inability to get paid early. Gen Z and the millennial workforce demand gig-like flexibility, modern technology, and compelling work options. Legion’s mission is to turn hourly jobs into good jobs, serving the hourly workers who make up the majority of the US workforce. We believe in empowering employees and helping employers be efficient and innovative by enabling intelligent automation powered by Legion’s Workforce Management platform to optimize labor efficiency and enhance the employee experience simultaneously. Legion WFM was built for the cloud with AI at the core and designed to handle the complexity of modern businesses and meet the needs of today’s hourly employees.  Our team is comprised of dedicated individuals from all backgrounds and experiences, globally distributed across all time zones.

If you are uncertain whether you have been contacted by an official Legion employee, reach out to recruiting@legion.co

For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s location, level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and internal equity within the company for the same position.
